What Is a Life Coach?

What is a life coach? Let me first tell you what a life coach isn’t. A Life Coach is NOT a therapist, psychiatrist or psychologist. While a life coach cares greatly about your mental health it is not their primary focus. While a therapist focuses on mental health and well-being a life coach focuses on goals. As a life coach, I focus on the future and not on the past.

What does a Life Coach do?

As a life coach, my main goal and purpose is to help you achieve your dreams and obtain the life you have always wanted. It sounds so simple, doesn’t it? Let me tell you a secret, it is easier to help a client obtain their dreams and life goals than it is to figure out what their dreams and goals are. Crazy isn’t it? Ask yourself what is your true dream for your life. A happy family, a great job, being rich, owning your own business, the list is endless. Many of us have given up on our dreams so long ago that we don’t even remember what they were.

Remember when you were a kid and you wanted to be a rock star or an astronaut maybe you just wanted to be rich. What happened to those dreams? You probably stopped dreaming because you were told that your dreams were not realistic. There was no way you could achieve your goal. Think back to your childhood perhaps you had a teacher, friend or parent who said your dreams were too big, too crazy to even attempt. We gave these people the power to crush our dreams like a little bug. How did they know? Perhaps you could have been one of those things, but, you will never know because you stopped trying before you even got started.

What is your dream now?

Chances are the dream you have now is very different than the one you had as a child. There is also a strong chance that you stopped dreaming so long ago that you don’t even know what your dream is. This is where a Life Coach comes into the picture. Through talking (a lot) and answering questions you will first be able to identify what your true dream is. Is your dream to be rich, or, is it to not have to go to work? These are two different things. Perhaps your dream is for family harmony. A home to go home to at the end of the day where everyone is working together as a family to encourage and support one another. Perhaps your dream is to get through a day without fighting with your teenager. The dreams and goals you have can be endless. Our first step in your journey is figuring out what you want.

How to achieve your dream

Now things are starting to get exciting. You know what your dream is, you know the type of life you want and it is time to get started. Along with your life coach, you will create an actionable plan. After each appointment, you will have homework. Yep, you heard me correctly. Homework. Together with your coach, you will fulfill each step of your action plan until the day comes that you have achieved the life you want. Sounds easy, doesn’t it? Well, it is not. Creating the life of your dreams is hard work and the truth is, change is hard and sometimes scary. We are used to things being the way they are and even if things aren’t great there is a comfort in knowing what to expect each day. Your life coach will help you not only achieve your dream but, also help you embrace the changes.

Do you need a Life Coach?

I believe that everyone needs a Life Coach. There is a reason that professional athletes have coaches. The purpose of the coach is to bring out the very best in each member of the team. The most successful people in the world all have coaches. Any person who has achieved great success has had a coach. Every successful person has someone who has helped guide them, mentor them, and care about them. So, do you need a life coach? Have you ever wanted more? More joy, more happiness, more money, more everything? If you have then you need a life coach. I wish you all the joys, happiness and fulfillment that you could ask for.

Be well and be happy.
